MBT Therapy
Mentalization-based therapy (MBT), a type of psychotherapy, has been shown to help patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) manage their symptoms over the long term. A complex type of mental illness known as BPD is characterised by difficulties with emotional control and impulse control, as well as problems in relationships and a shaky self-image.
Despite the fact that MBT and other evidence-based therapies have been shown to improve people with BPD's interpersonal skills and reduce incidents of self-harm and suicide attempts, BPD was once thought to be incurable.
Understanding Mentalization
Relationships are difficult for people with BPD because they frequently misinterpret the intentions or words of others. They frequently struggle with the ability to perceive, comprehend, and make sense of their own thoughts and feelings as well as the thoughts, feelings, and actions of others.
When interacting with others, people frequently try to guess the other person's feelings and potential driving forces. A person with BPD has trouble empathising with others or separating their own emotions and thoughts from those of those around them.
